"I have been compelled to make things (drawings, painting, etc.) ever since I can remember. In 1979 I was working on printmaking at the University of Wisconsin in River Falls. The glass shop was next door and I found myself drawn to that hot, high-energy environment and away from the print shop. The tricky molten material took over my life and since that time I have worked exclusively with hot glass, and am involved in an ongoing study of the interplay of form, color, texture and light. Soon after I became proficient as a glassblower, I began carving on simple bowls and vase forms. I then moved on to a series of more complex carved chalices, perfume vials and knives and within the last few years have begun to design and carve much larger vessel and sculptural forms. I am constantly searching for new ways to achieve these pieces as I envision them." Entire contents © Copyright NJM Gallery, Portsmouth NH (603) 433-4120.
