Artist Info:
Vandermark Merritt Glass Studios was founded in 1972 by Jerry Vandermark and Doug Merritt. Today, Doug Merritt, along with Stephen Smarr, are the primary glass blowers following a tradition of the highest quality glass blowing. The studio built its reputation with museum quality colonial reproductions, original Art Glass in the Nouveau and Deco traditions, crystal sculpture, contemporary designs and exquisite cameo creations. Artwork from the studio is represented in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Smithsonian Institution, Toledo Museum, Corning Museum, Wheaton Museum of American Glass and many other major museums, as well as in prestigious private collections. Artist Statement:
"There are several techniques employed in making cased floral vases. Colored glass rods and glass millefiori are used to create the distinct flowers that are cased and suspended in molten crystal glass. The crystal glass is then blown and handformed into its final shape. The piece is then polished, signed and given a number for its limited edition.

It is important to understand that the color in the vase and the flowers are not painted on with paints. The pieces are all completely made of glass. We are very proud that we have developed and use all our own colors and glass formulas. We start with raw materials: sand, soda ash, potash and metal oxides, and finish with these beautiful pieces."
